THREE people were killed while three others were left injured after a collision between a light motor vehicle and a bakkie on Baden Powell Drive in Mitchells Plain in the Western Cape on Saturday, 23 October.
ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived at the scene just after 3pm.
“Upon further assessment, two people were found to have sustained fatal injuries. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead at the scene.
“A four-year-old child had sustained critical injuries and was transported under advanced life support interventions to hospital for urgent medical care. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving at the hospital, the child was declared dead,” Meiring said one patient was found entrapped in the vehicle and had sustained serious injuries.
The patient was removed using the Jaws of Life.
“Another patient sustained moderate injuries, while a five-month-old baby sustained minor injuries. ER24, as well as Metro EMS and Life Healthcare, treated the patients at the scene before transporting them to hospital for medical care.”
Meiring said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to paramedics.
