Apartheid crime | 1982 murder makes it to court

JOHANNESBURG – It has been nearly 40 years, but justice for the murdered Cosas Three and their families might be in reach.

MK member Tlhomedi Ephraim Mfalapitsa allegedly conspired with the Vlakplaas Security Branch to kill the Congress of South African Students’ members using explosives.

The National Prosecuting Authority has expressed confidence in the case, even though the incident happened in February 1982.

The case is underway at the South Gauteng High Court on Monday.

“It’s a very sad case, the Cosas Four were my own personal friends and neighbours in Kagiso,” said Nomvula Mokonyane, ANC head of organising and mobilising.

“The ANC has come to accept what’s going to happen here because it’s going to reveal all the other truths that were never revealed at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”

Mokonyane said it is important that justice be carried out.
