Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the number 7 shirt once again for Manchester United, the club have confirmed.
Ronaldo shocked the world by returning to Old Trafford for a second spell with the club on Transfer Deadline Day, signing a two-year contract with the option of a third, 12 years after initially leaving for Real Madrid in a then-world record £80m deal.
The Portuguese striker scored 118 goals in 292 games for United during his first spell at the club, where he won three Premier League titles, two League Cups, the Champions League and a Ballon d’Or in six years.
But after hugely successful spells with Real Madrid and then Juventus, Ronaldo has returned to United to see out his career back ‘home’.
Edinson Cavani was the occupier of the shirt for this season, but United received special dispensation from the Premier League to switch him to number 21 following the sale of Daniel James to Leeds on Deadline Day, freeing up the number 7 for the returning hero.
Fans have reacted brilliantly to the news, with many delighted that the legend will get to run it back once more with the squad number that has become synonymous with his incredible career.
