Four Mbare traffic police officers appeared in court on charges of releasing impounded cars without the owners paying fine.
Linda Chawandandebvu, Felistas Musandirire, Fungai Siniwaro and Helen Moyo appeared before Harare magistrate Richard Mangosi charged with fraud. The matter was remanded to 31 July 2021.
The complainant in this matter is the State being represented by Superintendent Spencer Nyararai who is stationed at PGHQ Inspectorate .
The accused persons are all members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police stationed at ZRP Mbare traffic where they do Administration duties.
Since the beginning of lockdown phase, ZRP Mbare traffic engaged in traffic enforcement duties arresting Covid 19 violators and traffic offenders. Impounded motor vehicles were entered in the impound register and released upon payment of stipulated fines.
The State alleges that on the 27th of April 2021, the PGHQ Inspectorate team led by Chief Superintendent Chitsaka and the complainant’s representatives proceeded to ZRP Mbare traffic to conduct some spot checks on the management of impounds at the station.
