Man sexually attacks wife’s younger sister

A man from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly sexually attacking and assaulting his wife’s orphaned younger sister.

The alleged rapist cannot be named so as to protect the identity of the rape victim.

A source close to the incident said the 40-year-old man is married to a flea- market trader and they have two children.

The source revealed that when his wife left to buy stock in neighbouring South Africa on 10 August this year, on the following day the man asked his wife’s younger sister to clean their bedroom. While she was in the bedroom he stormed in and closed the door.

“He grabbed her and told her that since he married her sister, she was as good as his wife. He pushed her on to the bed, caressed her and raped her,” said the source.

The source went on to reveal that whenever his wife had gone to order stock the sex offender would sexually attack the teenage girl and give her money to buy her silence. He would also threaten to chuck her out of his house.

“He reminded her that she is an orphan and if she dared let out the secret he would dump her in the street. The teenager kept the rape ordeal to herself. However, the secret was laid bare after he assaulted the girl in question for having a lover. After that she disclosed to her sister and a church mate that she had been raped several times by the man in question,” said an insider.

She reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the alleged sex offender.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and urged rape victims to report such cases early so that they will get Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) within 72 hours to prevent one from contracting HIV. This is also done so that they would be offered counselling to cope with the trauma.
